In 2013/2014 we celebrated:

* 2014 All-Star Teacher Nomination for Sarah Coyle
* 2014 J. Russell Kent Award for Pencil Box News
* Roosevelt’s first ever 8th Grade Graduating Class!
* An API score of 801 (passing the state’s goal of a score of 800 for all schools)
* 9/10 in the API Similar Schools Rank awarded by the California Department of Education

School Supplies for the 2014/2015 School Year…
The following lists are the school supplies requested by each grade level for the 2014/2015 school year. Watch for sales on supplies at Target, Kmart, Office Max, etc. before the crowds!

Principal’s Reading Club…
Make sure your child is reading for 30 minutes EVERY day during the summer break! Reading Club fliers went home on the last day of school. If all of the pictures are colored in to indicate 30 minutes of reading each day,  your child will earn a prize when school is back in session. Please make sure the forms are turned in on August 25.

Reading Lists…
Keep your child reading this summer! The Redwood City Public Library has a Summer Reading Club and has summer reading lists for children of all ages and reading levels. If you sign up and read this summer, you can win some great prizes. http://www.redwoodcity.org/library/kids/index.html

Links for Kids…
Don’t forget to include some educational (but fun!) computer screen time this summer. Links for Jiji Math, typing programs and others can all be found on the parent blog under the tab Links for Kids, so check it out!

Uniforms…
The following uniform color choices are part of the uniform dress code for 2014/2015:

Dress code for grades TK-5:
Navy or Khaki – pants, shorts, skirts, jumpers, etc
White or Navy – collared shirts/tops, sweaters, jackets

Dress code for grades 6-8 ONLY:
Black, Navy or Khaki – pants, shorts, skirts, jumpers, etc
White, Black or Navy – collared shirts/tops
Black, Navy or White – sweaters, jackets.

School spirit t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants are also considered part of the dress code for grades TK-8. Roosevelt logo polo shirts, t-shirts, jackets and sweatpants will also be sold at MAZE day, so you can stock up. 

Important Dates for the 2014/2015 School Year…
August 19 – MAZE Day for students with last names A-L from 5:00-7:00pm*
August 21 – MAZE Day for students with last names M-Z from 4:00-6:00pm*

The first day of school for the 2014/2015 school year will be Monday August 25.

* Parents and students are always needed to help out at MAZE Day with collecting and stamping forms, selling spiritwear and welcoming new families to Roosevelt. If you would like to help out, please contact our PTA Treasurer, Guy Taylor at guytaylor123@yahoo.com

Tuesday, June 3 – Thursday, June 5
Minimum Day dismissal schedule – Kinders on Early Bird, Grades 1 & 2 – 1:00 dismissal, Grades 3 – 8 – 1:20 dismissal

Monday, June 2
Spirit Day – Hat Day! Wear a silly or normal hat with your school uniform.

8th grade Pool Party at PCC

Accelerated Reader Awards — Dessert Banquet at 6:30pm. This banquet is for the students that made all 3 AR goals this year. Please note: Parents needed to RSVP by last Wednesday (5/28) to attend.

Tuesday, June 3
Election Day! The YMCA room is once again a neighborhood polling place, so please allow more time for parking for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

Spirit Day – Crazy Clash Day! Wear clothes inside out or backwards or stripes with polka dots, etc. Please note that this spirit day is optional. Students not participating must wear the school uniform.

6th Grade (The Grizzlies Group) PBL Project Presentations – The Hero’s Journey at 8:30am in Room 10 followed by an end of the year party. Sign up sheets are outside the classroom or contact Ms. Vawter.

Wednesday, June 4

4th grade PBL Presentations – California Missions featuring Mission San Tomas and Mission San Maximilian at 8:30am in Rooms 2 & 3.

Kindergarten Farewell Festival at 10:00am

8th grade graduation at MIT at 6:00pm — Congratulations to Roosevelt’s first ever 8th grade graduating class!

Free Dress Day!

Last Day of School! Super Minimum Day – all grades dismissed at Noon

Vote for 7th grade teacher Sarah Coyle…
Sunday, June 1 is the LAST DAY to vote for Roosevelt 7th grade teacher Sarah Coyle for the Comcast All-Star Teacher award!  If Sarah wins, Roosevelt will receive $20,000!  The winning teacher is the one who receives the most votes.  Sarah is an exceptional teacher and truly an asset to Roosevelt. She has given her all to her students and now we have a chance to show her some support. Visit www.csnbayarea.com/allstarteacher  Fill out the information in the VOTE NOW box and press Submit. Students may also vote, but they need parent permission.

SJ Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy Soccer Game Tickets…
Tickets are still available! The PTA decided to purchase another block of  tickets in the next section so if you want to attend the game, please turn in an order form and payment to the school office as soon as possible! If you purchased tickets for the June 28 soccer game, please come to the office to pick them up. The PTA would like to thank you for your support and we’ll see you at the game! Yearbooks…
The school yearbook will be distributed this week for all those that pre-ordered a copy.  Mr. Williams’ after school yearbook club worked on them for most of the year and they look fantastic! The yearbooks are full color and available for only $30 each in the school office. Please make checks payable to Roosevelt PTA.

Lost and Found…
This is your last week to claim items from the Lost & Found cart in the office! If your child has lost a sweater, jacket, or lunch box, please stop by the office to take a look!

Summer Meal Program…

On the Parent Blog…
As soon as any photos or slide shows from Open House are received they will be posted to the parent blog. For those of you that didn’t get a chance to walk through the classrooms of the next grade level for your child, this is a great way to get an idea of what to expect next year.

Fundraise While You Shop…
Don’t forget to scan this week’s receipts for Shoparoo, check those Safeway receipts to make sure that Roosevelt is getting your escrip credits and look for Box Tops on anything you bought this week! (A note about Shoparoo: there are other Roosevelt schools in the area – one in Burlingame and one in San Leandro. Please make sure that your points are going to the correct Roosevelt School.)
